Knowledge Organisers

Knowledge organisers for humanities and science are available on the website at the start of each half term and show the areas of work that will be covered in each subject for the half term. They include key vocabulary which would be useful to revisit with your children. This term we have taken our history topic of ‘Invaders’ for the inspiration and focus for our learning. This means that wherever possible, we will make links between all our subjects, for example this half term we are reading the book “Beowulf” by Michael Morpurgo.

Religious Education

Within Year 5 this term we will focus on three key themes; those of Domestic Church (Family), Baptism and Confirmation (Belonging) and Advent and Christmas (Loving). We will also be looking at Judaism as our Other Faiths week this term. In the summer term we shall focus on Islam.

 

PE

All of Year 5 will have games with our CM Sports team on a Tuesday afternoon. In addition they will have another session as follows:

Homework

Homework will be given out on a Thursday to be returned the following Tuesday. If your child cannot complete a piece of homework then a note from you is required please. The homework will be set on Microsoft Teams, so please let your child’s class teacher know if you have any problems accessing it.

As well as English and Maths, the children may receive research based topic homework, science or RE. We encourage a love of reading and would appreciate if you could support this by hearing your child read, reading to them and asking questions about the reading. They should aim to read at least four times a week and the new reading diary should be signed weekly by an adult. It is advised that children receive a good balance of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

RSE in the Summer Term

In the summer term, our RSE will focus on Puberty and Adolescence. There will be a Parent Information Meeting for RSE in order to communicate what we will cover.
